This term, Year 7 RE students have been studying Ninian Smart’s dimensions of religion. Students took part in a competition to design their own new age religions, and we had some fantastic entries across the classes. Congratulations to all the winners, who received certificates and chocolate.
In November, selected Year 9 RE classes had the opportunity to visit Canterbury Mosque to learn more about the religion and how it is practised. Students had a tour of the mosque, learnt about important rituals, and even learnt how to write their names in Arabic. Thank you to the volunteers from the mosque who made the staff and students feel so welcome.
Year 8 History students have been learning about the Magna Carta and put in a fantastic effort creating their own. The History department has been impressed with the levels of detail students included, such as tea-stained paper, wax stamps, and official seals. There have also been a wide range of demands from our prospective barons including everything from "No Chores" to some wonderfully thoughtful demands such as "Treat people with respect", "Don't tell lies" and "Treat people fairly". Well done to our Year 8 Barons!
The Geography department has been developing students' fieldwork skills, with selected classes undertaking a fieldwork study of the school site. They also ran a competition for Year 8s to create a model of a volcano. The entries were impressive with some very ingenious designs - Well done to the overall winner Darcy S whose volcano was voted best in the year.
The faculty would like to wish all families a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
