Principal's Welcome

Principal's Welcome

Dear Parent/Carer,

It is a privilege to serve as the Principal of Herne Bay High School. We are not like every other school; we exist to provide our students with an education that ensures both outstanding academic achievements and the development of exceptional character. Before taking on this role, my leadership experience was shaped by serving in senior school leadership in London. My academic foundation in Clinical Psychology deeply influences my approach to education. I firmly believe that true academic excellence can only flourish when a child's mental and emotional wellbeing is deeply understood and nurtured alongside rigorous academic challenge.

At the heart of my leadership is a commitment to discipline and resilience. These are principles I live by outside of education, having competed as a powerlifter for Great Britain for over fifteen years and coaching athletes for the Special Olympics. I bring this same unwavering dedication and drive for success to Herne Bay High.

We place powerful knowledge at the heart of our curriculum as we firmly believe that all children should have access to the best of what has been thought and said. We want students to know more and remember more over time so that they become increasingly confident learners and can take the next step in their education, second to none.

Whilst we look to the future, we also uphold important traditions. We expect children to work hard; every lesson, every day, because there are no shortcuts to achievement. We expect children to play by the rules and behave impeccably both inside and outside of the classroom so that we have disruption-free classrooms and happy corridors. We have exacting standards regarding uniform, equipment, and punctuality because in the urgent business of learning, not a minute can be wasted.

We can achieve nothing without our highly skilled staff. We foster a culture of continuous improvement—seeking to get a little bit better every day—where leaders can lead, teachers can teach, and children can learn. Yet, while we drive for academic success, we are equally proud of our exceptional pastoral care. Championed by our dedicated pastoral, SEND, and CASS wellbeing teams, we give children the chance to become better versions of themselves whilst contending with the challenges of the modern world. Everything we do is underpinned by our core beliefs of Kindness, Respect, and Dedication, actively promoting fundamental British Values to ensure every student feels secure and empowered.

As a local Kent resident and a father of three, I completely relate to the hopes and expectations you have for your children. We view our families not just as supporters, but as vital, active members of our shared community network. By working in genuine partnership, we can ensure every young person is fully supported to thrive, take accountability, and unlock their absolute potential.

Yours faithfully,
