Term 1 News from the Humanities Faculty

Term 1 has seen students take part in some fantastic opportunities across the Humanities Faculty.

On Friday 27th September, Year 11 Religious Studies students visited The Clink Prison Museum in London to learn about the history of crime and punishment. They had a fantastic time hearing the stories behind the history of The Clink and even got to see, and try, some of the torture devices! Students also visited Southwark Cathedral to learn about Christian beliefs and practices. They were given a highly informative tour of the cathedral and had a Q&A session with the Canon Precentor, Rev. Kathryn. Students thoroughly enjoyed their visit and gained an invaluable insight into Christianity.

On Monday 7th October, Year 13 Law Students went to London to visit the famous Central Criminal Court, the Old Bailey, and tour the UK Supreme Court. Students had the opportunity to sit in the public gallery and watch parts of two murder trials, observing the country’s top barristers at work. As one of the students remarked – it was intense! They also had a tour of the Supreme Court, discovering its history and had the opportunity to see the Privy Council in action, observing a corporate case from the Cayman Islands.

The Faculty has been impressed by the positive approach students have been taking towards their studies. Year 7 Geography students have been busy honing their geographical skills in preparation for fieldwork later on in the year and GCSE Revision sessions are well underway across the faculty departments, run on Mondays after school.

We are looking forward to next term where we have more trips and competitions planned.
